I filled the car up this morning and it cost me nearly £40 , that is for 242 miles. The petrol was 110.9p per litre. The diesel is 11p a litre more. I hardly use the car, then when it gets to 1/4 tank I fill it up. Can't afford to use the car much, but the buses are so expensive around here when they run. If I took Edward to Lakeside on the bus it would be £8, it is only a 10 minute journey each way. Hubbie struggles with the cost of diesel and really can't see how we are expected to manage.
I agree it is way to high, and thats before the 2p increase comes in, after the profits the oil companies make, someone should stop them charging so much for fuel, and the government should ease off the tax a bit while times are so hard for everyone.
I walk to work most days, just under a mile each way. Only take the car if I have to pick Edward up after school on a friday from his dance lesson. I really just use it for shopping and if I need to go somewhere out of the ordinary. What with the price of gas and electric soaring, the council tax rising like it does and all the other bills we struggle like most of the country. We are actually a lot luckier than most with a small mortgage and only one child to support, but we find it hard some weeks to manage.
I really need my car, Aimee struggles with school if she stays for lunch so I need to collect her , its a half hour walk each way so without the car she would need to stay at school, which has already been proven to cause her behaviour to worsen, I also use it for shopping and visiting my parents and elderly grandparents, who both live in areas that are hard to get to on the bus, to visit my parents with the 3 girls would mean 2 busses lasting an hour and costing almost £10 where as in the car its a 5 min drive. Im lucky as I always go for a small car which is good on petrol so I usually do about 80 miles in a week and spend between £10 and £15 in petrol, but that is still £5 more than this time last year. If I didnt have the car I would end up spending more on bus fares
Its outrageous .I need my car for work as Im a community nurse but the NHS is still paying the petrol rate as when I started 10 years ago ! It cost me £50 to fill up today .Im going to change my mini as I cant afford to run it !
It's the same here - not only with petrol but with electricity and gas as well + food. Of course, wages do not rise. In fact, they give you less. Makes me so mad.
And the public transportation is frigging expensive, too .. going to the town center is 4 Euro round trip (and it's only like 5 km).
ETA: Oh .. I forgot something that makes me additionally mad ...with that weak dollar you'd guess that petrol prices lower since it's paid in dollar, heck no. They increase! How the hell can that be?!?!
Rip Off Britain, that saying is so true, we pay over the odds for everything in this country, examplenwhen I was in America many years ago I used to throw away my shirts and T shirts and just buy new ones they were so cheap.
I live in a village and you do really need to drive as there are no buses. The nears town to us is 8 miles - the village shop closed about 4 years ago.
The price is madness. I hardly use my car so I run BP Ultimate petrol and it costs me 114.9p per litre last time I filled up.
Now what everyone does not realise, wait till you go and tax your car this year, the chance is it has gone up! It was not only 4x4 that got stung in the budget, it was nearly all cars!
I drive an auto polo and my tax for next year has gone up either £50 or £90!!!!
