Hello Everyone,

I was just wondering if I could ask your advice on subscriptions as I am considering sub-ing to Cross Stitcher and have been offered a sub of another mag for Christmas. Since it's a bit difficult for me to get out of the house and the nearest newsagent that stocks them is a few miles away I thought it might be a good idea.

I know lots of you subscribe so I just wondered whether you thought it was worth it and if there's anything else you'd like to add!

Ta in advance!

Jess x

Like you I can't get out much and get really excited when my copy of WOCS or CS are due. That way I know for certain I will get at least two magazines a month. However, I will say that I was also influenced by the free gift one of the magazine was offering when you joined. I've just posted a thread about the magazines this month you might want to take a look. Happy reading, browsing and stitching.

Im thinking of subscribing to some magazines as well, but its just hard to choose between them. It is a good idea as in the long run you save money and you have something to look forward to every month Smile

I think i will subscribe in the new year though, as at the moment all the free gifts are christmassy and i have a lot of that to do already Smile

I sub to WOCS, Crazy, Collection, Gold, Card Shop and Cross Stitcher. Even though I am disappointed with Cross Stitcher I wouldn't stop subscribing just in case I miss something Wink

Princess if its a pain for you getting to the shops maybe it is a good idea so consider getting your mags this way, we dont sub as we are close to the shops anyway. Sounds like a plan for you though Princess.

I sub to WOCS and CSC.

I waited for a while buying the mag at the shop til a free gift that I really wanted was offered as an incentive (I got the cliff top poppy picture)

I love having them delivered, the thrill of the thump on the mat when they arrive is wonderful.

I often find that there are only a couple of charts each month that I really like.

This has caused me to wonder whether I get value for money, but as I enjoy reading the articles I'll carrying while I can still afford it.

Hi Jess,
I sub to WOCS & Crossstitcher, the 2nd being my fave - it depends on what you like though, I think cross stitcher has more in the way of home bits & bobs and things to make for gifts (which i love) where as WOCS is more character stitching - sorry you have bother getting out & about, I didn't realise x x

Hi Jess. I sub to Cross Stitch Crazy, Cross Stitcher and buy Card shop at a local shop. I just stopped my sub to WOCS as I have found that there aren't too many charts in that one I would make. I was getting 5 mags at one time but have cut back due to the cost of overseas subscriptions. Also, I'm running out of room to store them!! This doesn't help you decide which other sub to get though, does it? Have fun deciding.

Subbing is not for me as I only get probably 2 mags a year and that is enough to keep me going.

I subscribe to CS and have started a subscription to Crazy in August. As I live overseas, this is the easiest (and cheapest) way to get copies of a nice cross-stitching magazine. Italians magazines are not too interesting, there's one called Susanna, which features some nice patterns from time to time, but usually proposes large projects and very little you could use for a quick gift or a card. And it has a sort of "out of fashion" look I don't like...
I am quite happy with the CS subscription, though I liked it better a few years ago. As for Crazy, I have not yet received my first copy as yet. It seems that overseas subscriptions need to be activated... You are supposed to email them an let them know you want activation to have it delivered. It's a pity they don't tell you about it... So I discovered it only when I wrote to inquire about the delay!! Frown
Apart from that, I love receiving them. It's like receiving a small present every month!!

I subscribe to WOXS and Cross Stitcher, though to be honest, I only started subbing to Cross Stitcher when I moved to South Africa as I couldn't be sure I'd find it each month and it's really expensive.

Since moving back, I will probably let my sub to Cross Stitcher lapse and do what I used to do here - browse the copies in the shop and decide if I want to buy it.

I continue to sub to WOXS probably out of habit more than anything as I have every issue! LOL

It is more convenient to sub - you get it earlier, you are guaranteed a copy and it costs less per issue. If you work out that you generally buy several issues a year, it is worth it.

I sub to CSCS, CSCrazy 7 WOCS myself. If you read the post below, posted earlier by another member you might want to think again about Crossstitcher magazine yourself.

http://cross-stitching.infopop...96099842/m/408104465

Obviously it's up to you whether you want to go for it, and/or think the charts are what you want and value for money. But I personally know of many other people outside of the forum who have said they've thought Crossstitcher has gone downhill over the years. Each to their own, and depends on what kind of charts you are looking for more so. I think Origin offer more variety then Future Publishing myself.

I subscribe to WOCS and I'm going to subscrive to CSC next week. I find when I go to my local shops and even the supermarkets here, they never have the one I want or they get it in very late. It really annoys me! Subscriptions are soooo much easier Smile

Hi Jess, I have subscribed to Cross Stitcher for ages and it is by far my favourite. I often buy WOCS and CSC but I have never stitched anything from them. I have stitched loads of things from Cross Stitcher and I love the fact that they have cushions, tablerunners etc instead of just pictures. BTW I love the tablerunner you are stitching, have my eye on that one too. I too have difficulty getting out and about so I think a sub is a great idea.

Hi Everyone - I just wanted to say thank you for your advice. It's good to hear all your opinions. I think what I'm going to do is work how much I normally spend on mags a year and then work from there. I wish I could just pop in to WH Smith and peruse the mags once a month but unfortunately that's not so easy for me.

Thanks again. Any more opinions - please do let me know.

Jess x
