I'm booking in to see a gynae consultant, but was rather upset when my Dr asked if I wanted to see a consultant, and I'm not sure whether I'm going to see him just to discuss surgery, or whether it's to discuss all the options (medication, and surgery and maybe other options).
I will contact the Drs surgery if I have to, but it will be rather embarassing.
I've seen a consultant years ago to do with fertility and she covered ALL of the options, so I'm thinking that this time it is to cover ALL of the options too.
I was going to say im not too sure but id expect them to go over everything with you, when i was sent to a gynae i ws really disapointed with my first appt as he just examined me and said we could this, that or the other and i came away feeling no better off. Hope all goes well for you, sending bug hugs.
A Consultant is just that - someone to consult about your problems. Obviouly a specialist in his field. He can be a surgeon too though and generally is in my experience.
Hi there, been under the consultant on and off for what seams like years now. Having babies really didn't agree with me. I have been really luckly and have a fab consultant. He is kind and always listens. I was given a lady once and found her very rude.
They go through all the problems that you have and list the diffenet approaches that are needed to treat the problems.
I hope that they are able to offer you the solutions that you are after.
Oh forgot to say that my constiltant does all of my surgeries as well.
Take care and hope things get sorted for you.

The consultant is basically the boss, and has the authority to agree to what you want done without having to go and discuss it with his/her boss. So an appointment with the consultant is good, because then you can make decisions together about your treatment and know that no one is going to over-rule them. hth
